20. Vapor pressure and calculation of anesthetic concentrations

Abstract

This chapter looks at the concept of vapor pressure and how it figures into the delivery of anesthetic gases to the breathing circuit and patient. It also looks at other parameters affecting the delivery of anesthetic gases, including partition coefficients, latent heat of vaporization, and boiling point. The chapter describes the effects that environmental parameters such as high altitude can have on the delivery of anesthetic gases.
