Raising funds for the new hospital, choosing a site, establishing a pastoral care department and the idea of "human ecology", as well as nursing education and schools of medicine is detailed. Leadership throughout the years included Naurice Nesset, Frederic Norstad, Theodor Jacobsen, Alexander Ruggie, George Caldwell, Roger Hunt, Kevin Wardell, and Stephen Ummel.
