Technical challenges in endovascular treatment of ruptured aneurysm in a patient with BMI > 100

Abstract

Morbid obesity can pose some unique challenges in the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. In this technical report we discuss the challenges faced during the treatment of a ruptured aneurysm in a morbidly obese patient with BMI of 101. The technical adaptations we used ranged from utilization of Dyna CT for routine imaging, vacuum assist devices for patient transfer and trans radial approach to avoid groin complications. These adaptations are elaborated in this technical report and literature review, which we hope can be a good guide for physicians treating patients with this unique and challenging condition.
