Description
Milwaukee Hospital, Milwaukee, WI: Three women making communion wafers. In addition to caring for patients, the nurses at Milwaukee Hospital had a little business on the side. “An operation squeezed into two small rooms in the Motherhouse produced millions of communion wafers which were shipped all over the world. Five ovens which resemble waffle irons were used to produce up to 35,000 wafers daily which were cut five at a time from sheets of 25 all in a room about the size of a small kitchen. Packing and shipping were done out of the second room."
