Abstract
Problem:
At the 2025 Graduate Medical Education Committee strategic planning retreat, program directors identified an inefficiency and missed opportunity: duplication of presentations, with one faculty repeatedly delivering the same lecture across programs or different faculty developing similar presentations (eg, 4M’s for older adults in internal medicine, palliative medicine, family medicine). This redundancy at both the presenter and program administrative levels is inefficient and limits residents’ and fellows’ opportunities to explore topics of interest with local subject matter experts.
Approach:
Project parameters were clarified with program directors and included: ease of access restricted to individuals within our organization; sessions delivered within the last year; recordings and/or PowerPoint slides available; sessions relevant to other programs; and searchability by keywords. Programs identified up to five conferences and submitted key information via a SurveyMonkey form, including topic, date, presenter(s), links to recordings or slides, applicable programs, a brief description, relevant keywords, and whether the content was likely to be outdated within two years. With support from the medical library, a SharePoint site was developed that met program director specifications by providing secure, no cost access; robust search functionality (eg, by topic, keyword, applicable program, and presenter); customizable sections; and the ability to track views and recording usage.
Lessons Learned:
While residents and fellows were the original target audience, programs have used the platform to fill in for speaker cancellations, to give rural trainees access to more educational content, and as a speaker’s bureau to identify topics and speakers for future didactics.
Significance:
A centralized platform for sharing educational content relevant across programs is an efficient, scalable strategy to add value for programs, residents, and fellows.
